SAAB Gripen Upgrade
defenseuptodate.com – This time the good news comes from the Swedish Gripen fighter jet which will soon be upgraded. Swedish aerospace company Saab has signed a deal worth 3.5 billion Swedish krona ($338 million) to make the fighter jet even more sophisticated and tough.
Based on the SAAB report, the fighter jet will receive a new, highly sophisticated engine to increase its flight speed in the air and also improve electronic systems to avoid electronic attacks from the enemy.
Besides that, the Gripen Upgrade also includes a wider radar and sensor detection system, making it easier and faster to reach the enemy.
This will facilitate more effective and efficient interoperability between Gripen C/D and Gripen E over the data link.
Currently, for radar technology, SAAB JAS Gripen still uses the Ericsson PS-05 long-range droppler radar, which can spy on long-range targets with multi-purpose tracking.
Although this fighter jet can carry a variety of advanced missiles such as the Lockheed Martin Sidewinder AIM-9L, the MBDA MICA missile, and the Raytheon AIM-120B Advanced Medium-Range Air-to-Air missile, the SAAB Gripen can still fly in the air. with a maximum speed of up to 2,470 kilometers (1,534 miles) per hour.
And after the upgrade is complete we can see the future SAAB Gripen with more advanced technology embedded in it which makes a big achievement for the world’s more respected Swedish aerospace industry in the future.
